October 20, 2007

The race this morning was soooo much fun!  It was perfect race weather, a little on the chilly side but warm enough to really enjoy it.  We got up at 6:30 and got the girls dressed and headed downtown.  I along with about 10 other people spoke at the opening ceremony, which was in front of the starting line. Our stage was a huge UPS truck that we stood on top of!

Our family before the race:

race1-1

Then I met Chris, the girls, my mom, dad and sister, Brooke at the 1 mile starting line.

race2-1

race3-1

race4-1

Next year I’m going to run it.  At the end, me and my mom (and all the survivors) got roses.  We met Chris’ work team from Dell.  They all took off this morning to come out and participate, which I thought was an awesome show of support for Chris and our family!

race5-1

race6-1

Then we ate breakfast at the Pink Hat Cafe, which was set up inside Coach’s above the ballpark.

race7-1

We ate Panera’s Pink Ribbon bagels and fruit and drank some yummy Starbucks coffee before heading out to the ballpark for the survivor ceremony.

race8-1 race9-1

That’s the OU girls basketball team!  Wooooo!

race10-1 race11-1 race12-1

Seeing all those pink tees and hats was so encouraging!  On our hats, we stuck pink ribbon stickers, one for every year we had survived.  Some of the women there had over 20 stickers!  One of the other survivors said to me, “hey, imagine your hat someday with 70 ribbons on it!” Just such a great time.  We were all exhausted and the girls are napping.  We’re all relaxing now here at home.  What a fun day!

ETA:  Yes, me and the girls are on the front page of the Daily Oklahoman.  Yes, the article is mainly assumptions.  It states that I didn’t have health insurance, that’s not true.  We had really *good* insurance through AOL.  We just needed help paying for childcare while I recovered from my mastectomy.  So in the words of the head coach of the OSU football team, talking about the assumptions printed in the Daily Oklahoman:  “It’s Garbage.  And the person who put it in there is garbage!”  LOL I’m not normally an OSU fan, but this is something me and Mike have in common.

Oh yes, and Katie’s water broke so either today or tomorrow I’m going to be an AUNT!  Wooooo!
