Yesterday I was checking my voicemail on my phone and a photographer for the Oklahoma Gazette was needing a face to put with this year’s breast cancer article, and of course, guess who they thought of? Yours truly, this year’s poster child for breast cancer! So we had another shoot today, this one in the back yard with the girls in the swings.I dressed them all cute in matching dresses. For those of you in the metro OKC area, you can pick up your free Gazette at participating restaurants and cafes around town! It will be out Thursday.
I am thinking of all the good things about getting this type of attention, as far as getting my story out there and helping people. But I don’t want to let it get to the point of hurting my children or of it affecting our lives in a negative way. Chris is very reserved about our private life. His grace and understanding of my extroverted need to “tell the world” is so beautiful. But if it ever gets to the point where the girls don’t want to do appearances or photo shoots, or it gets in the way of my family’s life then I will stop saying yes. This is important for me to say because we will have opportunities in the future that will be far greater than the ones we’ve experienced so far. I have to remember that I am only a messenger, God can use other people (many more equipped than I) when its time. My calling is higher than just telling my survival story and taking my family along for the ride. I am a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a Christ follower. I can’t forget who I am while I speak about my encounter with cancer. Who I am made this encounter something to speak about! Where would I be without Chris, Gracie and Trinity, Brooke and Matthew, Katie and Jason, my parents and in-laws, you– my precious friends and of course, my God who loves me and healed me?
Okay, enough about cancer.
Trinity’s saying “sister, eat, dog, cat, and bunny.” Not all at once, of course. She mainly just points.
Gracie’s learning how to ride her bike. She and Chris had so much fun today riding in the street. He pushed her a little ways and then she would pedal on her own. My big girl!
That’s all. Thanks for reading, and thanks to the thousands of new people who have found our site. Welcome!
