February 17, 2007

I was violently ill last night as the chemo set in.  Yuck.  At least I only have three more treatments and the things I experienced are all temporary.  I had to constantly remind myself that I’m thankful to be alive.  Please keep praying.

I attended a funeral today for Mrs Naomi Woody. She turned 97 on the day she died, February 13, her birthday.  She was the most amazing woman I have ever met.  I had a feeling from the time I met her in 1995 that she would not grace us long with her presence, she was too good for earth.  She had most of the Bible memorized and from the time she was five years old, referred to Jesus Christ as her best friend.  We called her the matriarch of First Church–she’d been a member at my former church for over 70 years!  Her funeral was such a celebration, we know that she wanted to see her husband again and to meet her best friend in the flesh for all these years!  She loved children, and made blankies and booties and caps for the children of First Church.  We called them “woody blankets” and each child born in our church got one, it was an honor and a blessing.  Each one had been lovingly crafted and prayed over by beautiful Mrs Woody.  I am so glad I had the opportunity to know her, to treasure her wisdom and to hug her neck while she was here on earth.

For those of you who have been keeping up with the twins, please continue to pray for Taylor that she thrives…her sister Kylie died last night.  There was no way for her little body to fight the infection and it overcame her.  Unlike Mrs Woody, Kylie had days– not years– to be here with us.  But just like Mrs Woody, she was a treasure to those who knew her and loved her. Her short little life was not without purpose. My thoughts can’t help but turn to a healthy, thriving, resurrected Mrs Woody cradling one of heaven’s smallest angels in her arms…
